The Dominican Republic is located in the heart of the Caribbean and occupies 2/3
of the island of Hispaniola with a total surface of 77.914km2. The other part of
the island is occupied from Haiti.
In the year 1492 Columbus discovered Hispañola. Before his discovery, the island
was populated by the aborigines - the Taino Indians(Link) and was called "Mother
Earth - Quisqueya".
